Students with High Grade Targets
Students with high grade targets are considered to be ‘High Starters’.
This is because a student who has a high grade target is a high ability student and will be starting the sixth form having secured good grades in their GCSEs/BTECs. High Starters at SMHS are identified so that the expectation that they will continue to be challenged is clear to the student and their teachers/staff. High Starter students are expected to make sufficient progress to achieve the very highest A/A*/Distinction* grades in their Level 3 courses.
Whilst we expect all of our students to be challenged by their sixth form studies, high ability students have access to bespoke stretch and challenge programmes including Oxbridge support/support for progression into medicine/veterinary science (if appropriate), the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and a Personal Research Project (PRP).
