Before half term, as part of Year 8 Personal Development, students learned and practiced CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) in their lesson.

Students were given the information on how to perform CPR in a 30 minute lesson and then put this knowledge into practice in a follow up practical lesson using the resuscitation dummies.

The lesson not only helped give students vital information to help them perform CPR, it also hopefully gave them the confidence to stay calm and help in any given situation should there be a a cardiac incident.

Anyone can learn CPR and anyone may be in a situation where these skills are needed to be put into practice.  The British Heart Foundation website has a 15 min training course you can access so you are more informed, just in case. See the link here (BHF CPR video)

Below are the 7 steps of CPR:

  • STEP 1: CALL 911. …
  • STEP 2: ASSESS THE SCENE OF THE EMERGENCY. …
  • STEP 3: OPEN THE VICTIM’S AIRWAY. …
  • STEP 4: CHECK FOR BREATHING. …
  • STEP 5: 30 CHEST COMPRESSIONS. …
  • STEP 6: 2 RESCUE BREATHS. …
  • STEP 7: REPEAT THE CYCLE

The final joint IT and Business project for our Year 9’s before they start their chosen GCSE options involved creating their own Website using Google sites for their own business. The brief included the need for a professional home page, menu lists, button connections, contact us and location pages including usable map function, moving images or carousel of pictures and form completion for orders. The websites needed to present the details that a potential customer would want to see and would be interested in, as well as being user-friendly and adaptable for use on a laptop and mobile device function so the view of the websites pages was very important to get right. Our students created some great business ideas leading into wonderful websites which were functional and eye-catching, whilst being usable for potential purchases of goods and/or services. These are just a few of the final amazing websites produced, very well done to our Year 9 students including Naz, Kareen, Jack, Oligert, Ben, Maria and Wren.
