• Choosing St Mary’s

Thank you for considering our school for your child. At St Mary’s CE High School you will always find a welcome that is built on a strong Christian ethos and excellent relationships between adults and students.

We are a happy and inclusive school

Our Ofsted Good report in October 2023 observed that ‘Pupils behave well and treat each other with kindness. Many told us that the best thing about the school is the way the diverse school community feels like a nurturing family’ and in January 2020 the SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) inspection said St Mary’s is ‘An exceptionally inclusive and caring community’.

Watch our wonderful video about joining St Mary’s

Our Deputy Headteacher, Daniel Worker, explains how the school supports families and students joining the St Mary’s School community at Year 7, and why there are so many reasons to be starting your exciting senior school journey with us.

Meet our Head Teacher

At St Mary’s, we provide a safe, nurturing environment in which we can all flourish. We have the very highest aspirations for our students, their families, our local community, and ourselves.

We challenge students by having a rich and exciting curriculum provision and by making learning practical, engaging and enjoyable. We enable students to succeed by providing the best possible personalised support.

Our hope is that all the young people who come to St Mary’s will work hard, achieve their full potential and enjoy their time with us. We want our students to develop a strong sense of kindness and justice, to have pride in themselves and respect for others, to be emotionally resilient and emotionally intelligent, to have realistic aspirations of themselves, to acquire the qualifications and skills necessary to achieve their aspiration and to be an ethical citizen of the world.

As a school we are committed to supporting your child so that they have every opportunity to achieve their true potential, so they can contribute fully to a society that cares for and values everybody.

We look forward to working in partnership with you.

Mr Richard Vaughan,
Head Teacher

Why choose St Mary’s?

Central to our success is an ethos where we all work together and where individual skills, talents and cultural heritage are respected and valued; where students say they feel very safe and well cared for and where they enjoy their learning.

At St Mary’s we pride ourselves on the very highest standards for everyone in the community. Our work, and the achievements of our students, are regularly recognised as being outstanding and reflecting excellent practice.
