Inclusion
At St Mary’s we recognise that students learn at different rates and that there are many factors that can affect a students learning, including ability, emotional state, age and maturity and therefore it is our responsibility to respond to these needs in a way that will enable students to reach their potential and be valued.
The Inclusion Team is led by Mrs Laurel Lee and Ms Gemma Johnson. Mrs Debbie Dowsett is the Safeguarding Officer for St Mary’s who works with all staff to support students and minimise risk to their health, wellbeing and safety.
In addition a team of Learning Support Assistants support students with their learning.
Student Managers oversee the pastoral care and wellbeing of students so that they are able to achieve well in their learning and personal development. Our Student Manager Team is as follows:
- Pauline Brown – Year 7 Student Manager
- Jamie-Lee Spencer – Year 8 Student Manager
- Kim Hewitt – Year 9 Student Manager
- Tonia Nigrelli – Year 10 Student Manager
- Kara Gunning – Year 11 Student Manager
Learning Mentors support students while they work through more complex issues that might limit or impede learning. A Learning Mentor is linked to a number of identified students and makes sure that the students have intensive support to improve their personal skills and abilities to be more independent in their learning and personal organisation.
