English & MFL
The English and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) teaching and learning area is passionate about language and literature. They aim to develop this passion and love of language within every student.
Central to the work of the Teaching and Learning area is the development of students as independent readers. This is fundamental for students to be able to open their minds and imagination as well developing them to become great communicators and global citizens equipped with a broad vocabulary and competent grasp of grammar. Through the study of language, students are able to further their skills of empathy and creativity as well as their cultural insight and understanding. Both oral and written communication is valued highly and students are taught these distinct skills. Emphasis is placed on the accuracy of written communication and time is dedicated to ensuring that students secure these key skills. The skills developed within the English and MFL subjects provide students with language to access all areas of their school curriculum, whilst the qualifications gained are increasingly seen as essential by employers, thereby increasing opportunities for students in the workplace and supporting their social mobility.
