We had another excellent Festival of Learning this week with the wonderful Year 5 students from Goffs Oak Primary. The students experienced our joint IT and Business lessons and learnt how to use the computers, including systems house-keeping so they can find their work in files. They then went onto creating a new burger for McDonalds product portfolio. The creative ideas were spectacular and the Pixilart drawings of their burgers spoke for themselves. Very impressed with each and every student that attended, and we can clearly see young IT and Business specialists of the future.

Teens Unite Fighting Cancer Charity are hosting It’s a Knockout family fundraising day at Wormley Playing Fields on Sunday 12th July 2026.
Get ready to take on the Teens Unite It’s a Knockout!
Expect giant inflatables, hysterical games and oversized props as teams compete on the It’s a Knockout assault course.
The day kicks off with the Junior course where kids aged 5-16 join us to be part of the action. In the afternoon, it’s time for the adults to take on the challenge!
With your support, Teens Unite can improve the lives of more teenagers and young adults living with, and beyond, cancer.

Congratulations to Year 9 student Georgie, who travelled to Lisbon, Portugal last week to compete in the All Star Cheerleading competition at the European summit. Georgie and her team, Twisted Cheer and Dance, won silver overall in the competition.
Georgie has been cheerleading for over eight years and trains six times per week. We are really proud of Georgie’s dedication and commitment to her sport, as well as her recent success in Portugal.
Well done Georgie, we look forward to seeing more cheerleading success in the future!
Over one hundred students and teachers recently visited Walton-on-the-Naze for a Geography fieldwork trip on Tuesday, providing an exciting opportunity to bring classroom learning to life. During the visit, students carried out a range of fieldwork methods, including longshore drift tests, field sketches, wave counts, and environmental quality surveys. These investigations helped strengthen their understanding of key geomorphic processes such as erosion, deposition, transportation, weathering, and mass movement. Students will continue developing their coastal knowledge back in school by studying land reclamation in the United Arab Emirates and exploring how coastal management can lead to conflict in Miami.
Year 10 girls attended their second gym session at Ignite in Cuffley, where students were put through their paces by a personal trainer who had them working in pairs, in a circuit style session, focussing on a whole body work out.
The girls worked really well, working hard as well as encouraging each other, and it was excellent preparation for their PPE’s over the following two weeks.
We look forward to some regular PE lessons at the gym in the coming weeks.
Celebrate the end of the school year with an evening of music, sunshine and community at St Mary’s CE High School Summer Concert!

Throughout this academic year, our Year 7 students have been enthusiastically participating in a variety of co-curricular activities, every Friday, including sport, drama, languages, logical games and more. In these sessions, students build confidence, teamwork, creativity, communication, and problem-solving skills while enjoying learning beyond the classroom.
We are also delighted to announce that St Mary’s has launched co-curricular clubs for Years 8 and 9.
We are excited to share that Herts Summer Parks is back for 2026. Funded by Hertfordshire County Council, the programme provides young people aged 12–16 with access to free activities and food throughout August.

On Friday, 15th May 2026, the St Mary’s High School community once again came together in support of the Mental Health Foundation’s annual Wear It Green Day held during Mental Health Awareness Week from 11th–17th May. This year’s theme, ‘Action’ encouraged everyone to consider the small yet meaningful steps we can take to support one another and keep conversations about mental health open and ongoing.
The purpose of the day extended far beyond fundraising. It provided an important opportunity to continue normalising discussions surrounding mental health — a cause that becomes increasingly significant each year. The Mental Health Foundation’s mission of promoting “good mental health for all” strongly aligns with the values upheld at St Mary’s, particularly its emphasis on prevention and early support.
Students and staff were invited to take part by wearing a green accessory of their choice — from bold ties and colourful socks to quirky hats and scarves — in exchange for a £1 donation. For those without anything green to hand, green ribbon badges were available for a small contribution. During form time, students also enjoyed a fun quiz that tested their knowledge of mental health and, naturally, the colour green. The winning form proudly received a fitting prize: a vibrant green plant.
Thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of our school community, an impressive £182 was raised, all of which will be donated to the Mental Health Foundation. This achievement reflects the compassion and collective spirit that make St Mary’s such a special place.
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who took part and helped make Wear It Green Day such a success. Your support not only raises awareness but also strengthens a culture of empathy, understanding, and positive action throughout our school community.
