Athletics Officiating

Professional Sports Coaching Training for St Mary’s Students; We welcomed Athletics coach David Rice to St Mary’s on Thursday 11th May.

David is exceptionally well renowned and experienced in the world of Athletics, and in the past he has trained Sally Gunnell (although most of our students are too young to know who she is).

A mixture of Year 8 and 9 students were working with David to learn how to officiate Athletics events. They were tasked with some very challenging scenarios around scoring field events and track judging live video races. The students involved will put their new knowledge in to action and support local primary schools with their sports days later in the term. We look forward to sending more of our student sport ambassadors out in the community.
