La Quinceañera Celebration

Spanish Year 10 classes participated in an after-school activity to show them how a 15th birthday party is celebrated throughout almost all the Spanish speaking countries in South America.

The celebration is called “Quinceañera” after the number 15 in Spanish “quince”. The intention was for students to improve their confidence in using Spanish as a communication tool and promote a more practical knowledge of Spanish through immersion, practice, and culture in a slightly different manner to usual lessons. They all enjoyed the experience: they had some tapas like party food, participated in party games and danced to Latin American music.
