Work Experience

During the spring term, Year 10 students will undertake a one-week work experience placement. To help prepare them for the workplace, students will participate in a Work Experience Preparation Day. This will include sessions on workplace health and safety, CV writing, and interview skills, as well as a presentation from a local employer discussing the key skills and qualities valued by employers.

Work experience plays an important role in career development and can significantly enhance applications for further education, training programmes, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities. Even if students are unsure of their future career path or are unable to secure their ideal placement, any work experience provides valuable insight into the world of work. It offers the opportunity to develop transferable skills, build confidence, and gain a better understanding of personal strengths and interests. In some cases, a placement may also lead to further opportunities within the same organisation or help students progress towards their longer-term career goals.

In the summer term, Year 12 students will also have the opportunity to undertake a one-week work experience placement. Guidance and support will be provided to help students secure placements that align closely with their future education, training, and career aspirations.

Student Feedback

Sudenaz Kaygisiz (Year 12) – Rivington Street Studio

I loved every second of it, I have learnt and experienced so many new things in this week than I ever imagined! Everyday there was something new I learned and was taught about. Everyone was so welcoming and informative, whatever question I asked no one held back from answering it to the full extent and tried to be as helpful as possible. My favourite activity was going on sites with the architects to experience how it is being onsite, it gave me an insight on each process of the design process and informed me how much thought process ad consideration goes into every inch of a design. Overall my experience at RSS was unmatched, I now know so much more about architecture than I ever knew and my decision to becoming one is firmer than ever!
