Work Experience
In February, all Year 10 pupils will undertake one week’s work experience. In preparation for this the pupils will have a Work Experience Ability Day to help prepare them for the world of work, this will include, health and safety at work, CV writing and interview skills as well as a visit from an employer talking about the skills employers look for in the workplace.
Work experience is important for getting into any career. Having some can make you stand out from the crowd on applications for courses, training, and jobs. If you do not know what job you want, or you cannot get your perfect placement, any work experience is better than none. Whatever job you try, you’ll learn more about yourself and working life. You’ll also gain skills in the process. It may even lead to more suitable experience with the same company. It could be good preparation for another opportunity that’s closer to what you want to do. Try not to worry about where you could go to get work experience. Concentrate on what you could learn or improve on. In July, Year 12 will also get the opportunity to undertake a week’s work experience. Support will be provided to help guide students to find a work experience placement that is closely aligned to their future career plans. Sudenaz Kaygisiz (Yr.12) – Rivington Street Studio I loved every second of it, I have learnt and experienced so many new things in this week than I ever imagined! Everyday there was something new I learned and was taught about. Everyone was so welcoming and informative, whatever question I asked no one held back from answering it to the full extent and tried to be as helpful as possible. My favourite activity was going on sites with the architects to experience how it is being onsite, it gave me an insight on each process of the design process and informed me how much thought process ad consideration goes into every inch of a design. Overall my experience at RSS was unmatched, I now know so much more about architecture than I ever knew and my decision to becoming one is firmer than ever!Student Feedback
