Our Young Enterprise team Scentful Serenity held a trade sale in school selling their delightful products which included individual roses, decorative flowers and sustainable diffusers, which were packaged in a simple bag with customers having their own choice of scented oil. The concept was that the bottle can be simply refilled with water with just a couple of drops of the scents added to slowly diffuse into the air. Many students supported the team and purchased their products in advance of Mothers Day, which was greatly appreciated. Moving forward, we are now looking ahead to the final event at the University of Hertfordshire.

Our two Young Enterprise teams attended the Watford trade fair at the Atria Shopping Centre. The teams, Handmade Heaven and Scentful Serenity, both represented their businesses very well with well presented trade stalls and professional management, including selling to the public. We received some lovely feedback from customers who were impressed with the teams’ approach to speaking to the customers about what they are doing. Whilst it is a busy shopping centre, the teams had to face many knock backs from people who did not have the time to view their stalls, however they showed stern resilience in continuing to run their stalls and keep selling. Well done to the team members, Ivian, Charlie-George, Aaryan, Sophia, Liam, Sienna and Anita.

Year 12 students having a go at making fresh pasta. They then filled and shaped them. Well done girls! Very good first attempt!

We’re thrilled to share an exciting excursion our Year 12 Media students embarked on recently. As part of their ongoing exploration into the fascinating world of media, they had the opportunity to visit the renowned Tate Modern museum in London to engage with the captivating Media Networks exhibition.

Throughout their visit, our students were encouraged to analyse and critique the ways in which media shapes our understanding of the world, influences our interactions, and constructs narratives that define our collective consciousness.

Moreover, the excursion served as a valuable opportunity for our students to gain inspiration and insight from the works of renowned artists and media practitioners. By experiencing first-hand the innovative approaches and experimental techniques showcased in the exhibition, they were empowered to unleash their creativity and explore new avenues of expression within the realm of media arts.

As a school committed to fostering academic excellence and nurturing the talents of our students, we believe that experiences like these play a crucial role in their holistic development. By engaging with real-world contexts and contemporary issues, our Year 12 Media students are not only enriching their academic studies but also cultivating the skills and perspectives necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving media landscape.

Year 12 Art and Photography students had a fantastic day of Art & Culture on Monday 4th March. It was an invaluable opportunity to spend the day submerged in London culture and view the stunning art work at the National Gallery and Portrait Gallery as well take photographs around the local area of Covent Garden, Soho and Westminster. Our students were impeccably well behaved and had a fantastic day.

Our Year 12 Fine Art and Photography students had a fantastic treat this week. UAL (University of the Arts, London), the second most prestigious art university (after the Royal College of Art) in the world, came to St Mary’s to talk to our Year 12 artists about the courses they offer, the application process and preparing them for portfolios and interviews. It was an inspiring talk which left so many of our students wanting to visit the campuses and the end of year exhibition.
